MANILA — The vehicle of BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. was ambushed in Quezon City on Tuesday, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred while a Toyota Hilux, bearing plate number WDQ 811 and driven by security escort CO1 Cornelio Colalong, accompanied by CO1 Leonardo Cabaniero, was en route to Quezon City to pick up lawyer Al Perreras, BuCor’s deputy director general.

The vehicle, lent by Catapang to Perreras, was being escorted by an Innova driven by CSO2 Edwin Berroya and CO2 Michael Magsanoc.

The ambush took place around 6:30 a.m. when unidentified assailants aboard a gray Toyota Vios overtook them and opened fire.

Although the rear windshield of the vehicle was struck, the bullet failed to penetrate the bulletproof glass.

The trajectory of the bullet was toward the passenger front side, where Perreras usually sits, while Cabaniero was seated at the back of the driver.

The assailants’ car swiftly sped towards the Nagtahan exit of the Skyway following the attack.

Catapang revealed that both he and Perreras had been receiving death threats due to their implementation of various reforms within the agency.

As of now, Perreras has declined to provide any comments on the incident.
