MANILA — As of Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that 20 road sections across the country remain impassable due to the effects of Tropical Storm Kristine.

The DPWH Bureau of Maintenance noted that 15 roads in Bicol, 4 in Eastern Visayas, and 1 in Calabarzon are blocked by flooding, landslides, and other storm-related incidents.

In Romblon, clearing efforts on the Sibuyan Circumferential Road have been delayed by fallen trees and soil collapse. In Albay, several sections of major roads remain closed due to flooding and soil erosion. Similar conditions have affected roads in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon, where rockslides and floods have worsened road conditions.

Eastern Visayas also faces significant disruptions, including key roads in Northern Samar and Samar, where water levels have reached hazardous heights.

DPWH teams and disaster management units are on standby, ready for clearing operations as the tropical storm continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds, with its latest location recorded 310 km east-northeast of Infanta, Quezon.

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Saturday (23 Dec 2023) that crucial installation works are scheduled for the Roxas Boulevard-EDSA flyover’s northbound lanes, necessitating a temporary closure from December 26 to December 30.

According to the advisory posted on social media by the DPWH-South Manila District Engineering Office (SMDEO), the four-day project will focus on installing the two remaining expansion joints to address damaged sections on the northbound lanes of the Roxas Boulevard-EDSA Flyover.

Motorists are advised to anticipate traffic slowdowns in the northbound direction and are encouraged to explore alternative routes during this period.

MANILA — In a significant move towards advancing public service delivery, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) commenced the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Project Management Office (PMO) building in Sulu Province.

Led by DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan, the ceremony, held on December 7, 2023, in Patikul, Sulu, marked the beginning of the construction of a cutting-edge two-story office building spanning 1,890 square meters.

Described as a hub of efficiency and transparency, this initiative represents a crucial step in the growth of the DPWH organization, emphasizing its commitment to providing an improved working environment for the PMO Sulu Team and enhanced services for stakeholders, according to Senior Undersecretary Sadain.

The PMO Sulu, headed by Project Manager Barlie Nahudan and under the DPWH Regional Project Management Office-BARMM led by Project Director Najib Dilangalen, is a key player in fulfilling the DPWH’s mandate outlined in Article 13 Section 37 of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (Republic Act 11054), focusing on the funding and implementation of national roads and bridges.

Attended by notable figures including Project Director Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim of DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Roads Management Cluster II, the groundbreaking ceremony also saw the presence of Stakeholders Relations Service Director R. Del Rosario, UPMO RMC II Project Managers Lilibeth B. Rico and Olivia M. Baguio, as well as representatives from DPWH Regional PMO-BARMM and various Sulu town Mayors.

The first phase of the construction, with a total budget of ₱70 million allocated in the 2022 and 2023 General Appropriations Act, encompasses structural works, site development, and partial architectural, plumbing, and electrical works on the 5,000-square-meter lot. The subsequent Phase 2 will conclude the remaining tasks to finalize the office building project.

Notably, the Department of Budget and Management’s approval of plantilla positions and the operationalization of DPWH Project Management Offices in Sulu and five other provinces within BARMM signifies a significant stride towards the direct implementation of national infrastructure projects in the region, aligning with the General Appropriations Act and the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

Further demonstrating the commitment to infrastructural advancement, the conversion of the Sulu Island Circumferential Road into a national road under DPWH jurisdiction in 2022 has paved the way for ongoing engineering activities. KAMAKAILAN lamang ay nailathala sa MNM ang isang proyekto ng Department of Public Works and Highways sa San Marcelino Street at UN Avenue sa Maynila na ayon sa pahayag ng MNM ay tumagal ng dalawang buwan bago ito matapos at naging perwisyo sa publiko.

Nang makapanayam ng MNM ang ilang mga mag-aaral mula sa Adamson University at isang may-ari ng tindahan sa naturang lugar, sinabing  iniwan ng DPWH ang manhole na nakatiwangwang maliban sa kwadradong bakod.

Ngunit nitong Martes (Nobyembre 7, 2023) ay nagbalik ang MNM sa nasabing manhole at napansin ang biglang pagbabago sa isang maayos na daloy ng trapiko sa kalsadang iyon at ang dahilan ay naayos na at natapos ang naturang proyekto.

Lubos na nagpapasalamat ang mga residente na nakatira malapit sa lugar, lalo na ang mga mag-aaral ng unibersidad sa paligid, sa pagtatapos ng proyektong ito.
