MANILA — Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro on Saturday (30 Dec 2023) underscored the responsibility of Filipinos to protect the country’s sovereignty in a statement issued during the commemoration of the 127th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
“Today, let every Filipino be reminded of our collective duty and responsibility to uphold our sovereignty and sovereign rights as citizens of this nation,” he emphasized.
Teodoro urged citizens to embody the unwavering love for the Philippines, drawing inspiration from the national hero, and to remain united in safeguarding the hard-earned peace and independence of the nation.
Describing Rizal as a visionary and patriot, Teodoro highlighted Rizal’s decision to employ words and principles in the fight for the liberation of the nation.
“May the flame of love for our country continue to burn in our hearts and minds, as we uphold the honor and courage of the Filipino people,” added the Defense Secretary.
