MANILA — About 7,418 senior high school students availed free “diabetes screening” provider for by the Manila City Government yesterday, Monday, November 13, 2023.

About 25 public schools in Manila have been subjected to the free diabetes screening the Manila Health Department said.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan personally visited the Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) High School in Sta. Mesa and Pres. Sergio Osmeña High School in Tondo.

Lacuna said the number of young individuals in the city with diabetes are increasing as per the LGU’s data.

According to Lacuna, students whose family members with diabetes have a greater chance of having one.

By identifying diabetes early, complications such as chronic kidney disease that will require dialysis can be avoided, even at an early age.

Diabetes screening is one of the local government’s programs to commemorate World Diabetes Day.
