HAVE YOU SUDDENLY received texts that you’ve won in some games that you didn’t even bet on?

Or receive calls that you have to settle some debt that you didn’t owe and they’re asking for your PIN or personal identification number?

Chances are that they could be scammers.

Undersecretary Alexander Ramos of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Sunday advised the public to ignore calls requesting PIN codes.

The official also revealed that scammers can generate a list of numbers of potential victims through AI (Artificial Intelligence) and call or send text messages to see if the numbers are active.

He added that turning off a cellphone is also a must so that “the subscriber could not be reached” prompt will be heard from the other line and could help the public avoid mobile phone scams.

Ramos issued the reminders amid the continued proliferation of scams despite efforts like SIM card registration to curb them.

He pointed out that banks or telcos do not ask for personal information through calls. (ai/mnm)
