Effective immediately, the Department of Transportation has announced that the mandatory requirement for wearing face masks in public transport has been lifted. This decision comes in the wake of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. terminating the Covid-19 state of public health emergency.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has further disclosed that physical distancing protocols on public transportation have also been lifted. As a result, all passenger vehicles are now permitted to operate at their full capacity.
Bautista emphasized that while public safety remains paramount, the removal of these protocols is aimed at enhancing commuters’ convenience and bolstering the transportation industry’s revival. This move is also expected to stimulate economic activity in the country.
Despite these changes, Bautista assured the public that frequent sanitization of public transportation will be diligently maintained to mitigate any potential health risks. (ai/mnm)
