MANILA – His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, is set to embark on an official visit to the Philippines on Sunday and Monday, upon the gracious invitation extended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The Presidential Communications Office disclosed on Saturday that the two esteemed leaders will delve into discussions encompassing regional affairs and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the Philippines and Qatar. These discussions are slated to encompass a wide array of cooperative endeavors, spanning labor, climate change, trade and investments, energy security, education, youth, and sports.
According to reports from The Peninsula Qatar, following his visit to the Philippines, the Amir’s itinerary includes subsequent stops in Bangladesh and Nepal. During these visits, His Highness will engage in dialogues with the respective leaders and officials, aiming to bolster collaboration and address shared concerns. Additionally, a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding are expected to be inked across various sectors, underscoring the commitment to deeper cooperation.
This visit holds significant historical resonance as Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani follows in the footsteps of his father, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, who was the first Qatari head of state to visit the Philippines in 2012. This underscores the enduring bond between the two nations.
Highlighting the robust ties between the Philippines and Qatar, Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Lillibeth Pono expressed optimism regarding the forthcoming visit, emphasizing its potential to elevate bilateral relations to new heights. Ambassador Pono noted that the existing framework of over 20 agreements, covering a spectrum of areas such as investments, taxation, air services, labor, and agriculture.
