MANILA – More than 7.4 million individuals have registered to vote during the seven-month nationwide voter registration period for the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Data released on Wednesday by Comelec revealed that 7,427,354 voter applications were processed between February 12 and September 30, 2024. However, this figure excludes the province of Batanes, which extended its registration deadline until Tuesday due to the impact of Super Typhoon Julian.

Among the regions, Calabarzon recorded the highest number of registrants at 1,223,159, followed by the National Capital Region with 997,062, and Central Luzon with 834,467.

Other regions with significant numbers of registered voters include:

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM): 416,866

Davao Region: 411,879

Central Visayas: 387,586

Bicol Region: 365,464

Northern Mindanao: 344,083

Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region logged 301,645 registrants; Zamboanga Peninsula, 297,086; and Negros Island Region, 293,760. The lowest number of new registrants was recorded in the Cordillera Administrative Region, with 111,410 applications processed.

Aside from new voter registrations, the Comelec also handled applications for transfers, corrections of records, reactivation of registration status, and the inclusion or reinstatement of voter records in the voter list. Additionally, the commission processed applications to transfer records from foreign service posts to local precincts.

This surge in voter registration highlights the growing political participation of Filipinos as the 2025 elections approach, with Comelec continuing to ensure access to voting rights despite challenges like severe weather conditions.
