MANILA — The Philippine national team secured a silver medal at the 1st Asia Pacific Padel Cup held at Amare Padel Club Umalas in Bali, Indonesia after a closely contested 2-3 loss to Indonesia in the final match over the weekend.

Despite an earlier 4-1 victory over Indonesia during the group stage, the Filipinos were unable to repeat their dominance in the final. Both teams showcased their best, but Indonesia managed to edge out the Philippines when it counted most.

In the semifinals, the Philippines delivered a decisive 4-0 win over Malaysia, while Indonesia cruised past India with an identical 4-0 scoreline. India took home the bronze after defeating Malaysia, 3-0, and Singapore finished fifth by overcoming Hong Kong, 3-2.

The Philippines displayed remarkable form throughout the group stage, achieving clean sweeps against India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore with 5-0 victories in all matches.

Leading the Filipino team was Padel Pilipinas president Senator Pia Cayetano, accompanied by standout players Tao Yee Tan, Princess Jean Naquila, Yam Garsin, Marian Capadocia, Duane and Derrick Santos, Argil Lance Cañizares, Raymark Gulfo, Abdulqoahar Allian, Bryan Saarenas, Mhar Joseph Serra, and coaches Bryan Casao and Jaric Lavelle.

“We aimed for the top spot, but there are valuable lessons we take away from tough losses,” Cayetano shared in a statement on Monday.

Looking ahead, Padel Pilipinas is set to host thePlay Padel Open in October as the final event of the Philippine Islands Padel Tour. The Padel Masters in November will feature the top-ranked players from this year’s tournaments.
