BUENOS AIRES – Liam Payne, former member of the popular UK boy band One Direction, tragically died on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.
Alberto Crescenti, director of the city’s public emergency medical services, confirmed the fatality.
“At 5:04 p.m. local time, we received a report of a man found in the hotel’s inner courtyard. Our ambulance arrived within seven minutes, but sadly, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. We later identified him as a musician,” Crescenti said.
Local authorities reported that a call had been placed earlier to the police about a man exhibiting aggressive behavior at the same hotel. However, it remains unclear if this incident was linked to Payne’s fall.
Payne, who found international fame as part of One Direction, joined the group when it was formed in 2010. Their debut album, Up All Night, topped charts globally. The band has been on hiatus since 2016.
