ANKARA – Former NBA star Yao Ming announced his resignation Thursday as chair of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Guo Zhenming was elected as his successor during an Executive Committee meeting of the CBA’s 10th Members’ Congress held the same day.
“Taking over the baton of the Chinese Basketball Association is a heavy responsibility and a glorious mission,” Guo remarked.
Yao, 44, cited “careful consideration” and his “personal plan for the development of Chinese basketball” as reasons for his decision.
Having assumed the role on February 23, 2017, Yao was a standout player for the Houston Rockets from 2002 to 2011. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and earned All-NBA Team honors five times. (Xinhua)
