MANILA — Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno has announced he will run for a seat in the House of Representatives, serving as the first nominee of the Akbayan Party-list, instead of pursuing a Senate bid.
“Thank you for the trust and support! It is an honor to represent Akbayan Party and push for its principles,” Diokno stated in a post.
“We will focus on protecting the welfare of the Filipino people, upholding our democracy, and holding the corrupt accountable. Ipanalo natin sa Kongreso ang kapakanan ng lahat ng Pilipino!” he added.
Akbayan’s second nominee is Rep. Percival Cendaña.
Earlier, labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Luke Espiritu also expressed interest in running for Senate.

“Thank you for the trust and support! It is an honor to represent Akbayan Party and push for its principles,” Diokno stated in a post.
“We will work tirelessly to protect the welfare of the Filipino people, uphold democracy, and hold the corrupt accountable. Let’s champion the rights of every Filipino in Congress!” he added.
Akbayan Party-list’s second nominee is Rep. Percival Cendaña.
Earlier, labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Luke Espiritu had expressed interest in running for the Senate.
