MANILA, Philippines — Sandro Muhlach, the son of former child superstar Nino Muhlach, gave a harrowing testimony on Tuesday, alleging that he was coerced into inhaling a white powdery substance and subsequently sexually assaulted by two independent contractors associated with GMA Network.

Speaking virtually at a Senate inquiry investigating the policies of television networks and artist management agencies regarding abuse and harassment complaints, Muhlach detailed the incident. The inquiry was convened in response to a privileged speech by Senator Robin Padilla on August 5, 2024.

During his testimony, Muhlach recounted that one of the accused, Jojo Nones, had messaged him at 3:59 a.m. on the day of the incident, inquiring if he had returned home after attending the GMA Gala Night.

Their conversation, which began with a discussion of potential projects, soon turned to drinking, with Nones offering to order more alcohol. Muhlach became uneasy when he learned that Nones was alone and ceased responding to the messages.

However, at 4:37 a.m., Nones contacted Muhlach again, claiming to be with other members of the drama team. Intrigued by the opportunity to connect with them, Muhlach agreed to join.

Upon arriving at the location, Muhlach found Richard Cruz, the second accused, lying drunk on a bed while Nones offered him wine. Muhlach recalled that after consuming the wine, he was coerced into inhaling a substance that left him feeling numb. He described the incident, stating, “I didn’t lie down. I was pulled to the bed.”

Though visibly affected, Muhlach stated that he could recount the events without breaking down emotionally.

The Senate inquiry continues as it explores the broader issues of abuse and harassment in the entertainment industry.
