MANILA – Filipina Muay Thai fighter Islay Erika Bomogao, an alumna of the University of Baguio and a proud native of Benguet, Philippines, has ascended to the number one ranking in the world for her sport.
In a social media post by Ben Buenavista, Islay accordingly secured her position at the top after a decisive victory over Sarah Kwa, the reigning Muay Thai state champion of Australia, in a thrilling match held in Kenwick, Australia.
This win, combined with her stellar performance at the WC2023 Bangkok IFMA, where she earned 1,920 points, and her third-place finish at the WC2024 Patras IFMA Senior World Championships, propelled her to the pinnacle of the global rankings.
“Congratulations, Islay, on this outstanding achievement! Your dedication and hard work have truly paid off, highlighting the exceptional talent we have in our country,” Buenavista said on social media.
