MANILA – The Philippines will remain under the influence of warm and humid weather patterns due to the easterlies, according to a meteorologist on Wednesday (08 May 2024).

“Despite this, numerous areas, including Metro Manila, will still encounter sporadic rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening,” remarked Daniel James Villamil from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will persist across the entire archipelago.

In the meantime, PAGASA has forecasted that at least 18 regions will experience a potentially hazardous level of heat index, reaching a peak of 45 degrees in Virac, Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; and Guian, Eastern Samar.

Heat indices, which describe what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is factored in, ranging from 42°C to 44°C are expected in the following locations:

Aborlan, Palawan – 44°C
Cuyo, Palawan – 44°C
Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
Bacnotan, La Union – 43°C
Alabat, Quezon – 43°C
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 43°C
Masbate City, Masbate – 43°C
Iloilo City, Iloilo – 43°C
Dumangas, Iloilo – 43°C
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur – 43°C
CLSU, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 42°C
Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 42°C
Legazpi City, Albay – 42°C
CBSUA Pili, Camarines Sur – 42°C
Cotabato City, Maguindanao – 42°C

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible under these danger levels, ranging from 41°C to 51°C. Prolonged exposure could also lead to heat stroke, cautioned PAGASA.

Meanwhile, no significant weather disturbances are anticipated over the next three to five days, Villamil added.
