MANILA — The Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP) strongly denied on Wednesday (09 Oct 2024) that it issued a Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) to self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Pastor Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, who is currently detained on charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse.

“I am not aware of who signed his CONA. Only three individuals are authorized to sign on behalf of WPP: the Chair, the President, and the Senior Vice President. As President, I can confirm that I did not sign any CONA for Quiboloy,” said lawyer Sonny Matula.

The WPP president added that he asked their Chair, Atty. Ariel Arias, and Senior Vice President Dr. Oscar Morado, and both claimed they had “no knowledge” of signing a CONA on behalf of the controversial televangelist, who is wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Quiboloy’s counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, showed reporters a notarized copy of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Manila Hotel Tent City.

The form, signed by Quiboloy, indicated that he was nominated by the WPP.
