MANILA — Chery Tiggo Crossovers displayed sheer dominance as they swiftly overcame Strong Group Athletics in a sweeping victory, with scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-19, that all but propelled them to the top spot in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, February 24.
The Crossovers improved their record to 2-0, while the Athletics fell to 0-2 in the standings.
“We’re improving with each game, which is our goal. We executed our plays effectively, and I’m pleased with the team’s performance,” remarked Chery Tiggo head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr.
Mylene Paat, stepping in as the opposite hitter from the bench, contributed 10 crucial points, including nine successful attacks and an ace. Ara Galang also made a significant impact with nine points, followed by Czarina Carandang with seven.
Despite trailing by eight points in the third set, Strong Group Athletics staged a brief comeback with a 5-0 run, closing the gap to 22-18. However, their efforts proved insufficient as the Crossovers maintained their composure and sealed the victory with a decisive 2-1 rally, clinching the set 25-19.
A pivotal service error by SGA’s Nikkie Baldizanso ultimately sealed Chery Tiggo’s victory at 25-19.
Justine Rebleza, Sheeka Espinosa, and Dolly Versoza led Strong Group Athletics with eight points each.
