MANILA — Senator JV Ejercito commended on Thursday (29 Feb 2024) the decision by the Metro Manila Council (MMC) to prohibit e-bikes on major roads, citing safety concerns for electric vehicle users.

The MMC recently approved a resolution banning the use of e-bikes on major roads within Metro Manila.

“I sometimes fear for their safety. Naturally, it saddens me. These are means of transportation for the less fortunate. Sometimes, they are used for transporting goods,” Ejercito remarked on Thursday (29th February 2024).

“However, I am genuinely concerned when I see mothers, and grandmothers using them to transport children,” he added.

“Therefore, I firmly believe that they should not be allowed on national roads. It’s primarily for safety reasons. Must we wait until someone loses their life?” the senator emphasized.

Violators will face a fine of P2,500, according to Romando Artes, the acting Chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
