MANILA — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has pledged to address the El Niño issue in the country through tailored approaches, recognizing the varying conditions across different regions.
Marcos emphasized that the government has noted disparate impacts, with some areas experiencing drought while others contend with flooding.
“In Mindanao, El Niño manifests differently compared to Luzon and the Visayas, particularly Western Visayas, where we see significant water shortages,” remarked the President.
“Here in the South, however, we face flooding. Therefore, our response strategies differ accordingly. We will persist in this approach,” he added.
Furthermore, Marcos underscored the need for infrastructure development to ensure a reliable water supply for agricultural irrigation and fisheries.
“We are focusing on enhancing livelihoods, particularly in agriculture and fisheries. These endeavors necessitate a consistent water supply for irrigation and domestic consumption. Hence, the construction of vital infrastructure is imperative,” he explained.
