HOLLYWOOD — Oscar viewers found Al Pacino’s announcement for Best Picture to be “chaotic” and “confusing” during the ceremony, noting that he omitted reading out the 10 nominees in the category.
“When it comes to the Best Picture award, only one film will take the prize, and, uh, I have the envelope for that, and I’ll get to it. Here it is,” Pacino said onstage. “And I see ‘Oppenheimer.’ Yes, Emma Thomas.”
For many, discerning Pacino’s words before he declared Christopher Nolan’s film as the winner proved challenging, prompting numerous reactions online to the slip-up.
“I can’t get over how Al Pacino announced ‘Oppenheimer’ as Best Picture. Couldn’t have been more chaotic or confusing lol,” remarked one user on X (formerly Twitter).
This year featured 10 nominees in the category: “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Holdovers,” “American Fiction,” “Poor Things,” “Past Lives,” “The Zone of Interest,” “Barbie,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Maestro,” and, of course, “Oppenheimer.”
The incident swiftly became a hot topic on social media, with users freely sharing their reactions.
