MANILA – As indicated by the weather bureau on Tuesday (23 April 2024), several areas across the Visayas and Mindanao are poised to encounter scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, courtesy of the easterly winds.

These regions encompass Soccsksargen, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) cautioned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these locales may potentially trigger flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, the remainder of the country is set to witness isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

While precipitation is expected in various parts of the nation, attention is drawn to 24 regions experiencing heightened heat index levels.

Heat indices ranging from 42°C to 46°C are forecasted in the following areas:

NAIA;
Science Garden, Quezon City;
Dagupan City, Pangasinan;
Bacnotan, La Union;
Aparri, Cagayan;
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan;
Echague, Isabela;
Iba, Zambales;
Clark Airport, Pampanga;
Baler, Aurora;
Sangley Point, Cavite;

Heat index denotes the perceived temperature of the human body when relative humidity is factored in with the air.

At heat indices ranging from 41°C to 51°C (denoting the danger level), susceptibility to heat cramps and heat exhaustion is heightened. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may also precipitate heat stroke.

Across the archipelago, expect light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
