MANILA — Two weather systems, namely the easterlies and the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ), are poised to usher in hot and humid conditions across most regions, accompanied by isolated downpours in select areas of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil indicated that the ITCZ, delineating the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, is currently impacting Caraga and the Davao Region, potentially resulting in overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Concurrently, the easterlies, characterized by winds originating from the east traversing the Pacific Ocean and bringing humid and warm weather, are expected to prompt isolated downpours or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and other parts of the nation, particularly during late afternoon or evening hours, as stated by the weather agency.
“Overall, most regions can anticipate fair weather with clear skies,” remarked Villamil.
As temperatures continue to rise heading into May, PAGASA warned of potentially hazardous heat indexes in numerous areas, including Metro Manila. The heat index reflects what the temperature feels like to the human body when factoring in relative humidity alongside air temperature.
