MANILA — Senator Nancy Binay revealed on Wednesday (22 May 2024) that senators have apologized to former Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri after ousting him from the Senate presidency.
Binay believes that Zubiri did nothing wrong and remains supportive of him.
“First of all, I didn’t see anything wrong with Senator Migz Zubiri’s leadership,” Binay said in a radio interview.
“If Senator Migz had done something wrong, why are they the ones apologizing? That’s also our question—what did Senator Migz Zubiri do wrong to be removed?” she added.
“It’s puzzling because they are all asking for forgiveness and explaining themselves. Why do they need to explain if they think Senator Migz had shortcomings or made mistakes?”
The lawmaker mentioned that senators were invited to a dinner, but only Senators Win Gatchalian and former Senate pro tempore Loren Legarda from their group attended. Zubiri and Binay did not attend.
Senators Sonny Angara, JV Ejercito, Joel Villanueva, Binay, Gatchalian, and Legarda have all supported the former Senate President.
