MANILA — Senate Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada reiterated on Tuesday that the divorce bill is not a priority bill in the Senate, saying that it will not help solve “hunger” in the country.

“That is not our priority bill,” Estrada said during Kapihan sa Senado.

“Ngayon, sa change of leadership, uunahin namin ‘yung mga priority bills. ‘Yung divorce bill naman kahit may divorce bill o walang divorce bill, hindi makakatulong sa kumakalam na tiyan ‘yan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Estrada said that he surveyed his colleagues about the divorce bill as he was curious about their position following the passage of the proposed Absolute Divorce Act in the House of Representatives.

For his part, the senator said that a divorce bill should not be passed as it is against the teachings of the Catholic church.

“I’m a devout Catholic. I was educated from a Jesuit educated school and  I adhere to the teachings of our Catholic Church, period,” Estrada said.
