MANILA — Despite Typhoon Julian moving outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), several areas in Northern Luzon remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, experiencing strong winds, according to PAGASA.
The affected areas include Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and parts of Ilocos Norte (Pasuquin, Sarrat, Paoay, Bangui, Vintar, and more), as well as northwestern Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria). Typhoon Julian, downgraded to typhoon status, was last tracked 280 km west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with sustained winds of 165 kph and gusts reaching 205 kph.
PAGASA also raised a gale warning over Northern Luzon’s seaboard, warning that sea travel remains dangerous for all types of vessels. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Taiwan by Wednesday night or Thursday and may weaken into a remnant low over the weekend.
Typhoon Impact: 8 Injured, Over 43K Families Affected
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported eight injuries, all from Cagayan Valley, during the typhoon’s onslaught, while one person remains missing in the Cordillera region. The total number of affected families has reached 43,093, or approximately 149,293 individuals across 552 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and Cordillera.
As of the latest reports, 646 families are in evacuation centers, with 921 others receiving assistance outside shelters. The typhoon also damaged 88 houses.
