MANILA – Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo officially joined the Philippine Navy (PN) Reserve Force on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
In a simple oath-taking ceremony held at the PN headquarters in Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Yulo was granted the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1).
Navy spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos confirmed that the oath-taking was presided by Naval Reserve Command chief Maj. Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, representing Navy chief Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr.
“I am honored to be enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected. Wearing this uniform fills me with immense pride, and I am committed to upholding the Navy’s core values. I hope to inspire the youth to serve the country through sports,” Yulo said.
Adaci praised Yulo’s dedication and discipline, which led to his double gold wins in the floor exercise and vault events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Adaci added that these qualities would serve him well as a Navy reservist.
