MANILA – A forecaster mentioned on Thursday 29 Feb 2024) that there is a minimal likelihood for a tropical cyclone to form or enter the country in early March.
“Based on our analysis, the probability of a tropical cyclone occurring in the first few days of March remains low,” stated Benison Estareja from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
However, PAGASA’s forecast highlighted that the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across the Davao Region.
Estareja clarified that the LPA is currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The bureau also cautioned that moderate to heavy rainfall in the area could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is anticipated to bring light rains over Aurora, with isolated light rains expected over the rest of Luzon.
On the other hand, the easterlies and localized thunderstorms will likely cause isolated rain showers across the rest of the archipelago.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected over the northern and eastern sections of the country.
Elsewhere, winds are forecasted to be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
