MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced Monday night the official end of the southwest monsoon season, or “habagat.” The country is now transitioning to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” which is expected to bring cooler, drier air in the coming weeks.
For Tuesday, isolated rain showers will affect most parts of the country, with Bicol Region and Quezon expected to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to easterly winds. These conditions may lead to flash floods or landslides, PAGASA warned.
Similarly, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms from the easterlies. The rest of the country will see localized thunderstorms, with light to moderate winds and seas.
A low-pressure area located 305 km west of Coron, Palawan is forecast to dissipate within the day, PAGASA said.
