MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives for approving a ₱50 billion budget to fund its modernization program for the upcoming year.
“This increased funding will allow the AFP to advance our capabilities across land, air, and sea operations, and better address the nation’s current security challenges,” said AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla on Sunday (18 Aug 2024) night.
Next year’s allocation represents a ₱10 billion increase from this year’s budget, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s defense.
Padilla emphasized that while this additional funding is a positive step, the modernization program is an ongoing process that demands sustained investment to fully achieve its goals.
“We are committed to making effective use of these resources to secure our nation, but continued support will be essential in the coming years,” she noted.
The AFP looks forward to ongoing collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that all military branches are well-equipped to face evolving security threats.
