MANILA – Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez has made history as the first Asian to win The Voice USA, claiming victory on December 11, 2024 (Philippine time).
His achievement not only elevates his career but also sets a new precedent for Asian talent in the competitive music industry.
A Journey of Persistence and Passion
Sofronio’s rise to fame was not immediate. His journey began in 2016 when he first competed on Tawag ng Tanghalan, a Filipino singing contest on It’s Showtime. Though he did not win, Sofronio’s passion for music never waned. He returned in 2019 for another chance, but again fell short. Despite these setbacks, he remained determined to push forward.
From Tawag ng Tanghalan to The Voice USA
In 2024, Sofronio’s perseverance led him to The Voice USA, where his powerful blind audition performance earned a rare four-chair turn. After careful consideration, he chose Michael Bublé as his coach, marking the beginning of his extraordinary journey. Throughout the competition, Sofronio’s vocal prowess and emotional depth impressed both the coaches and audiences, leading him to the final showdown.
Victory and Gratitude
On December 11, Sofronio was declared the winner of The Voice USA, earning $100,000 and a recording contract. His victory was a testament to his talent and relentless dedication. In a heartfelt moment, he thanked his coach, Michael Bublé, saying, “Your mentorship is a blessing to me, my family, and all the dreamers out there. You open doors for everyone.”
Bublé praised Sofronio’s journey, saying, “You’ve become a hope to many people, not just in the Philippines but in all of Asia. I’m so proud of you.”
Unstoppable Talent
Sofronio’s final performances, including renditions of “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, showcased his incredible vocal talent and ability to inspire. His victory is not only a personal triumph but also a moment of pride for Filipinos and Asians worldwide, proving that with talent, determination, and the right support, anything is possible.
Sofronio’s success paves the way for future generations of Asian artists to follow their dreams on the global stage.
