MANILA – Health advocate Dr. Willie Ong has announced his intention to run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections, despite his ongoing health challenges.

In a Facebook live broadcast, Ong revealed that he will file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on Wednesday, October 2, with his wife, Liza Ong, submitting it on his behalf.

“She will file it for me, but I’m the one running. We’re doing this to show that God is real. This time, we’re going to win,” Ong declared.

“I’ll do it the cleanest way. I’m not aligned with the administration, Duterte, or the opposition. It’s just me, no one else. If they help, thank you; if not, thank you. I owe no one, and I’m not asking for anything,” he added.

Ong previously ran for vice president in the 2022 elections but was unsuccessful.

Earlier, the doctor shared that he has been diagnosed with a 16 x 13 x 12-centimeter sarcoma in his abdomen.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in bones and soft tissues, including fat, muscles, blood vessels, nerves, deep skin tissues, and fibrous tissues.
