MANILA – Most parts of the Philippines are expected to experience rain showers on Monday, December 9, as three weather systems influence the country’s weather, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA reported that the shear line, intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and the northeast monsoon (amihan) are affecting various regions, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms.

The shear line is responsible for scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, and Aurora. Meanwhile, the ITCZ is impacting the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan with similar weather conditions.

PAGASA forecasts moderate to heavy rains in Quezon, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Dinagat Islands. These areas are warned of potential flash floods and landslides due to the heavy precipitation.

The northeast monsoon is expected to bring rains to the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Isolated light rains are also anticipated over the Ilocos Region and Central Luzon. Other parts of the country may experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Despite the current weather conditions, PAGASA noted that no low-pressure area is being monitored for cyclone formation at this time. However, strong to gale-force winds and rough seas are expected in northern Luzon and the eastern parts of central and southern Luzon.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against potential hazards, including flash floods and landslides. Stay informed through local news updates and PAGASA bulletins for the latest weather information.
