MANILA — Veteran sports journalist and longtime commissioner of the Philippine Basketball League (PBL), Chino Trinidad, passed away on Saturday, July 13, his daughter confirmed today, Sunday (14 July 2024).

According to a report by GMA News Online, Chino’s daughter, Floresse Trinidad, confirmed the news through a text message. Floresse’s message read: “Yes, we are very sad to share the news of his passing last night, July 13, 2024.”

Details regarding his passing, including the cause of death, have yet to be disclosed by his family.

Chino Trinidad was a former GMA Sports correspondent and sports analyst. GMA News Online noted: “Chino was recognized for contributing to the promotion, awareness, and appreciation of arnis and Filipino martial arts.”

Fellow sports journalist Bill Velasco mourned his death, writing on his Facebook account: “I am beyond broken-hearted at the loss of [Chino Trinidad], my brother, colleague, friend. A fighter, patriot, [and] truth-seeker. There will [never] be another like you. I love you.”
