Manila – A shear line and the northeast monsoon are expected to bring “heavy to intense” rainfall to parts of Luzon, particularly Quezon, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Northern Samar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5 a.m. bulletin on Tuesday (24 Dec 20224).
Moderate to heavy rains will also affect Aurora, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate, Eastern Samar, and Samar. The rest of Calabarzon and Mimaropa will experience cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bulacan, and Nueva Ecija will see cloudy skies with rain from the northeast monsoon, while the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Localized thunderstorms are expected in other regions of the country, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers.
PAGASA also issued a warning for rough to very rough sea conditions in Northern Luzon and the eastern parts of Central and Southern Luzon, caused by strong to gale-force winds. The Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and northeastern Mindanao will experience moderate to strong winds and rough coastal waters.
In weather updates, PAGASA forecaster Rhea Torres confirmed that Tropical Storm Pabuki (formerly Romina), now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), no longer poses a threat. Torres also stated that no new low-pressure areas have been monitored within or outside PAR.
