Deniece Cornejo presents her great-great-grandfather’s historic letter to Gen. Douglas McArthur in 1947 that Chairman Emmanuel Calairo of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines recognized its historical importance.
MANILA — Deniece Cornejo recently revealed a significant piece of history by presenting a 1947 letter from her paternal great-great-grandfather, Atty. and Brigadier General Miguel Cornejo Sr., to General Douglas MacArthur.
The letter is poised to fill gaps in Philippine military history, with Chairman Emmanuel Calairo of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines recognizing its historical importance.
This unveiling prompts a call to honor Brigadier General Cornejo, the architect of the National Defense system and the National Military Academy.
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines is set to initiate efforts to celebrate and complete the military legacy of Brigadier General Cornejo.
Adding to the significance, in 2021-2022, Deniece Cornejo completed five months of basic military training in the Philippine Air Force.
The discovery of the letter served as inspiration for her to accomplish the training, earning her the Gold Medal for patriotism, courage, and fidelity.
