MANILA — Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno has announced that he will seek a seat in the House of Representatives as the first nominee of the Akbayan Party-list, shifting his focus from a potential Senate bid.
“Thank you for the trust and support! It is an honor to represent Akbayan Party and push for its principles,” Diokno stated in a post.
“We will work tirelessly to protect the welfare of the Filipino people, uphold democracy, and hold the corrupt accountable. Let’s champion the rights of every Filipino in Congress!” he added.
Akbayan Party-list’s second nominee is Rep. Percival Cendaña.
Earlier, labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Luke Espiritu had expressed interest in running for the Senate.
