MANILA – The easterlies will continue to bring warm weather with potential isolated rains or thunderstorms to most parts of the country, according to the weather bureau on Friday (17 May 2024).

However, the shear line affecting extreme Northern Luzon will result in cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

Northern and western sections of Northern Luzon can expect moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas, while the rest of the archipelago will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, PAGASA has issued a warning for dangerous heat index levels in 37 areas, with the highest expected to reach 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Sangley Point, Cavite; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

The following areas may experience a dangerous heat index ranging from 42°C to 44°C:

PAGASA advises the public to limit outdoor activities, especially around noon, and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
