The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is preparing to assemble the National El Niño Task Force, aiming to ensure coordinated efforts in preparing for and addressing the potential impacts of the El Niño phenomenon.

Under the leadership of Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, Administrator of Civil Defense and Executive Director of the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), the task force will convene on July 19 at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

During the meeting, the participating government agencies will discuss their ongoing initiatives related to El Niño. Key points of discussion will include the presentation of short, medium, and long-term plans from various team clusters, focusing on addressing the effects of El Niño on food security, water security, energy security, health, public safety, and other relevant issues.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will also provide an updated forecast of the climate phenomenon, along with the current status of dams across the country. (AI/MNM)
