MANILA – The Philippines has approximately 3,000 available job vacancies in Taiwan, particularly in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, according to a statement from a labor attaché on Saturday (11 Jan 2025).
Cesar Chavez Jr., Labor Attaché and Director of the Migrant Workers Office in Taipei, revealed during a news forum in Quezon City that Taiwan issued over 15,000 job orders for Filipino workers in 2024 alone. To address the gap in job placements, the Philippine government has been actively organizing job fairs across the country to help fill these vacancies while safeguarding workers from illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
“We currently have 3,000 pending job orders that still need to be filled. For those interested in working in Taiwan, they can visit the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) website for more details,” Chavez said.
In addition to promoting job opportunities, Chavez also disclosed that the DMW is in discussions with the Commission on Elections to seek an exemption for government-led job fairs from the 2025 election spending ban. He emphasized the importance of continuing these fairs, both local and overseas, to help reach the target quotas and provide opportunities for more Filipinos.
“If we can secure an exemption, we will be able to continue organizing job fairs and fill the pending vacancies,” Chavez added.
Currently, more than 160,000 Filipinos are employed in Taiwan, with the majority working in AI and semiconductor industries, and a smaller portion employed in Taiwanese households. The ongoing job fairs are seen as a critical tool to help address labor shortages and support the growing demand for skilled workers in Taiwan’s thriving tech sector.
