MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers’ standout rookie Ishie Lalongisip has been named the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for February 4 to 8, marking a significant milestone as the first-ever rookie to win the prestigious honor.
On Thursday, Lalongisip played a key role in ending Cignal’s two-game slump, scoring 13 points in their dominant 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 win over Capital1 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. The victory helped the HD Spikers improve to a 6-3 record in the ongoing All-Filipino Conference.
“I just embrace the role given to me by coach Shaq [Delos Santos]. The pressure is always there, but I choose to take it positively,” the 23-year-old Adamson University alumna shared.
Lalongisip’s impressive performance earned her the weekly award over notable players such as PLDT’s Savi Davison, Petro Gazz’s Brooke Van Sickle, and Creamline’s Bea De Leon.
The award, presented by Pilipinas Live, recognized her growing impact on the team, especially in the absence of key players like captain Ces Molina and middle blocker Riri Meneses, who left mid-season.
The Cignal HD Spikers now look to carry their momentum into their upcoming match against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles (4-5) on February 13.
In a related note, Petro Gazz triumphed over ZUS Coffee in a thrilling 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22 match on February 4.
