MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver’s license of Rico Akmad Buyawan, the survivor of a deadly motorcycle stunt along Marilaque Highway on January 26, 2025, that killed fellow rider John Louie Arguelles and injured multiple bystanders.
According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, Buyawan was given the opportunity to present his side during a hearing.
However, the LTO-Calabarzon office’s investigation determined that he was guilty of reckless driving and operating a vehicle without proper authorization. This led to the decision to revoke his license.
Mendoza stressed that a driver’s license is a privilege tied to the responsibility of ensuring road safety. He emphasized that public roads should never be used for dangerous activities like stunts, especially by motorcyclists.
The incident, which was captured in a viral video, showed Buyawan and Arguelles performing a ‘Superman’ stunt when Buyawan collided with Arguelles, causing his death and injuring at least six bystanders.
In response to the tragedy, the LTO has intensified its road safety efforts, launching the “Stop Road Crash” campaign and organizing a unity bike ride along Marilaque Highway to promote safer road practices.
