MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully compelled a Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel to move farther from the Zambales coastline, officials confirmed Saturday.
On Friday at 1 p.m., the larger CCG vessel 3304 replaced vessel 3103 off the Zambales coast. Despite its imposing size of 111 meters, the PCG’s BRP Cabra managed to push it back to about 100 nautical miles from the province by Saturday morning.
PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, stated that the move is part of the PCG’s firm commitment to safeguarding the Philippines’ maritime rights in the West Philippine Sea. The BRP Cabra conducted hourly radio challenges to assert the CCG’s illegal presence within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.
“The unwavering efforts of the BRP Cabra highlight the PCG’s patriotic duty to protect the nation’s maritime sovereignty,” Tarriela added.
The development underscores the PCG’s vigilance amid ongoing tensions in the contested waters.
