MANILA – Mikey Williams, a two-time PBA Finals MVP, has officially joined the Strong Group Athletics (SGA) team ahead of the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship, which kicks off on January 24 and runs until February 2.
The 33-year-old guard from Los Angeles, California, will showcase his sharpshooting and playmaking abilities as part of SGA’s campaign in the prestigious tournament.
Williams will reunite with Strong Group head coach Charles Tiu, whom he worked with during their time together in Mighty Sports, where they clinched both the 2019 William Jones Cup and the 2020 Dubai Basketball Championship.
“I’m excited to be working with him again,” Tiu shared. “We were quite close before, and we won two championships together. Hopefully, we can make it a third.”
Joining Williams on the roster are talented players such as Rhenz Abando, Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman, Angelo Kouame, Andray Blatche, NCAA MVP Allen Liwag, Tony Ynot, and Justine Sanchez.
The team will also feature notable imports, including Demarcus Cousins, Malachi Richardson, and Terry Larrier.
SGA fell short in last year’s championship, losing to Al-Riyadi in the final, but with the addition of Williams and a star-studded lineup, the team is hopeful of a stronger performance this time around.
