ISTANBUL – Tyson Fury, the former heavyweight world champion, has officially announced his retirement from boxing, following his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, 2024.

In a brief Instagram video posted on Monday, January 13, 2025, the 36-year-old Briton, known as the “Gypsy King,” shared his decision with fans: “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I have loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask!”

The timing of his retirement came just days after British sports promoter Eddie Hearn hinted that Wembley Stadium was being reserved for a potential bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua.

This marks Fury’s second retirement announcement. The first came in August 2022, when he stepped away from boxing and vacated his Ring heavyweight title. However, he returned six months later to defeat Derek Chisora, further cementing his legacy as a two-time heavyweight world champion.

Fury first claimed the heavyweight title in 2015, when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko, and has since become one of the most prominent figures in the sport.
