MANILA – Crime incidents in Metro Manila saw a significant decrease of 19.61% in January 2025, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) acting chief, Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.

A total of 451 crimes were recorded, 110 fewer than the same period last year.

Aberin credited the drop to aggressive police operations targeting illegal drugs, firearms, gambling, and wanted criminals. Focus crimes, including murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, and robbery, all showed notable reductions.

Rape cases fell by 46.49%, physical injuries by 37.14%, homicide by 28.57%, and theft by 23.05%.

The NCRPO’s clearance efficiency was recorded at 92.46%, while its solution efficiency stood at 72.73%, indicating effective crime resolution and swift arrests.

Additionally, in January, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) reported the arrest of 1,177 wanted individuals and suspects.

Anti-crime operations also led to the confiscation of 139 firearms, six explosives, and over 1,300 rounds of ammunition. The seized items were valued at PHP 97.2 million.

Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III of the PNP-CIDG emphasized the importance of removing loose firearms to prevent their use in crimes, particularly as elections approach.
