MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will begin issuing daily updates on the illegal activities of China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels off the waters of Zambales, with a focus on their ongoing incursions into Philippine territory.
In an interview with PTV, PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Commodore Jay Tarriela, emphasized the importance of regular reports to keep the Filipino public informed and to send a strong message to the Chinese government that the Philippines will not tolerate their unlawful presence in the area.
“This is to ensure that the Filipino people understand the situation, and to make it clear to China that we are standing our ground,” Tarriela stated.
The PCG remains committed to a peaceful, professional response despite the aggressive actions from CCG vessels, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to avoid escalation and prevent the Philippines from being provoked.
“We will continue to challenge the illegal presence of the CCG in accordance with our mandate,” Tarriela added.
On Monday, the PCG vessel BRP Cabra responded to a distress call from the Filipino fishing boat F/B El Kapitan, but was shadowed by CCG vessel 3304, which hindered the timely transport of a deceased fisherman.
