ROME — Pope Francis, 87, was forced to cut short his homily on Sunday (09 Feb 2025) after struggling to breathe, a result of his ongoing battle with bronchitis.

During a speech at St. Peter’s Square for the Jubilee of the Armed Forces, the Pope apologized to the congregation, saying, “I have difficulty breathing,” before handing over the remainder of his address to Archbishop Diego Ravelli.

The Pope’s respiratory issues have persisted for several months, with concerns heightened by his recent health struggles, including hospitalizations and surgery for an abdominal hernia.

Despite his condition, Pope Francis has continued to carry out many of his public duties. The audience, in response, showed their support with applause. (ANSA)
