MANILA — Senator Bong Go is advocating for online classes for students due to the high heat index.
Go has urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to implement online classes during this period.
“My primary concern is the safety, health, and welfare of our students and workers,” he said.
“There are areas right now experiencing extreme heat, which is neither ideal nor conducive for our students’ learning. It’s very difficult in this weather. The heat index is high. Here in Iloilo, it reached 37 degrees Celsius, which is dangerously hot.”
Some schools and local government units have already suspended face-to-face classes due to the high heat index.
According to PAGASA’s heat index forecast, temperatures are expected to reach a “danger” level, ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.
The senator also urged the government to continue providing services while addressing the threat of extreme temperatures.
