MANILA – Mapúa University outlasted Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in a thrilling five-set match, 25-19, 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 16-14, securing their first win in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the LPU gym in Intramuros, Manila.

Freighanne Garcia led Mapúa with 14 points and 17 digs, while Raissa Janel Ricablanca matched her with 14 points. The Lady Cardinals capitalized on steadier play in the fifth set, finishing the intense match in 2 hours and 13 minutes. Gregchelle Cabadin added 12 points, and Therese Angeli Manalo and Alyanna Nicole Ong contributed 9 and 8 points, respectively.

For LPU, Johna Denise Dolorito shone with 23 points and 21 receptions, while Joan Doguna scored 14 points. Ashley Muchillas added 13 points and 12 digs, and Hiromi Osada chipped in 8 points, including two aces. The Lady Pirates suffered their second loss in four games.

In the men’s division, Mapúa’s Ar-Jay Ramos led the Cardinals to a 23-25, 14-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-9 victory over Lyceum with 25 points, including 23 attacks and two aces. John Benedict San Andres contributed 24 points, and Saint Marlowe Jamisola added 11 points. This win marked Mapúa’s third consecutive victory.

Lyceum’s Jun Frank Edang scored 20 points, and Jhon Icon Aquino added 18. Despite winning the first two sets, the Pirates were unable to sustain their momentum in the later stages. Kian Carlo also contributed 16 digs and 17 receptions.
