MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across several regions in the country on Monday (24 Feb 2024), due to the easterlies and the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
Areas affected by the easterlies, including Eastern and Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, Caraga, Sorsogon, Masbate, Capiz, Iloilo, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro, could experience moderate to heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, the “amihan” will bring light rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. Isolated light showers are also expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Strong to gale-force winds, along with rough seas, are forecast in Northern Luzon. Moderate to strong winds and rough seas will affect the Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and parts of Mindanao, while light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas are expected elsewhere.
PAGASA also confirmed that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation.
